November 27

What a pleasant surprise the evening was; David Humphreys a lovely artist and artisan from Stratford who has made some plates and bowls from dead wood that I use (checkout his website http://web.me.com/burlforest), brought his family and friends to make up a delightful group.

It was a cold evening but the food certainly warmed us all up I think. We started with chana masala on nan served on David's lovely walnut plates. Followed by chicken curry, dal with spinach, malli peralan (mixed veggies in coconut milk and curry leaves), of course basmati rice and raita. Dessert turned out quite nicely too - mixed tropical fruit (jackfruit, mangoes, pineapple, kiwi) garnished with phirni (coconut milk ice cream for our vegan friend), strawberries and blueberries marinated in Ouzo and mint. Pretty yummy if I say so myself!

Hope to see you at one of the divans in December. In the meanwhile wish you all a wonderful season and and the best for the New Year.

what is a divan?

In India a divan or diwan is a council or assembly of leaders – and sometimes refers to the council chamber itself.  It comes from a middle eastern word meaning “bundle of written sheets, small book or collection of poems.”
