August 22nd class at Natasha's

Lovely day on Sunday the 22nd. Lovely Natasha had invited for 4 of her friends for a class at her townhouse in Cabbagetown. The menu was chicken curry wih spinach, masoor daal, okra and paneer/mattar. I brought the mago phirni, only because it takes quite long to prepare - longer than we had that is. We started off with the chicken, some direction to wash, chop, cut ingredients for the 2 veggies and then it was pretty much a social afternoon. Ramona had several questions, I understand Jacqueline is a foodie (please check her blog at http://thevongway.blogspot.com) and had some very interesting stories to relate about food and travel and experience. Michael - I was impressed - came to the class almost directly from the airport! and Andrew (with Jacqueline) came for the class and an early dinner directly from brunch at the Stockyards after having waffles and fried chicken!! Hats off to that...

It was as much a learning experience for me because I am still trying to hone the class to what most people expect to get keeping in mind that it is seldom possible to please everyone of course.

what is a divan?

In India a divan or diwan is a council or assembly of leaders – and sometimes refers to the council chamber itself.  It comes from a middle eastern word meaning “bundle of written sheets, small book or collection of poems.”
